Kayben Farms Family Events
In 2006, Kayben farms held its first annual Black Currant Harvest Festival with a turnout of about 200 people. That tripled in 2007, with about 600 visitors at our farm. We quickly realized the need for fun family events at low cost in the foothills and Calgary area. So, in 2008, Kayben Farms will be hosting three family events in June, August, and September. They are:
‘Flavours of the Foothills – Black Currant Harvest Festival’
Saturday, August 23rd 2008, 10am to 5pm - Admission $2, Children 5 and under are FREE! Wagon rides will be included in the admission price.
Join us for our 3rd annual Black Currant Harvest Festival - A fun family event that puts a spotlight on locally grown food. Held in conjunction with The Chinook Honey Company and Canadian Rocky Mountain Ranch, this event is focused on the development and diversity of farming in Alberta. Some of the activities at Kayben Farms are:
- Harvesting Demonstrations – See how black currants are brought from the field to your table in a fun wagon tour of our farm – FREE with gate admission
- Taste Testing – Sample all of our black currant products – FREE
- Kids games
- crafts – fee for supplies
- U-pick cut flowers - new for 2008
- U-pick Black Currants – Pick your own pail of fresh black currants. Pre - picked pails of currants will NOT be available the day of the Festival
- Enter to win an incredible prize from Flavours of the Foothills – visit all three farms and get your passport stamped to enter – FREE to enter
- Cooking with Black Currants – demonstrations on just some of the many ways to use black currants in your kitchen – FREE
- Live music from 10:30 - 2:30
- $5 lunch available after 11:30
- try our signature Black currant frozen yogurt
- Sit in our giant chair and have your family picture taken
- One day only specials throughout the garden center

‘Kayben Farms Scarecrow Shenanigans’
Saturday, September 27th 2008, 10am to 5pm - Admission $2, Children 5 and under are FREE! Wagon rides will be included in the admission price.
Come down to Kayben Farms for our first annual ‘Scarecrow Shenanigans,’ a full day of fall fun for the family! Activities include:
- Pick your own pumpkin from our pumpkin patch – priced by the pound
- Family pumpkin carving contest – cost is the price of the pumpkin. Carve it up at the farm and be entered to win a spectacular prize
- Kids games & fall crafts – FREE
- ‘Scarecrow Scavenger Hunt’ – a fun, educational scavenger hunt at our farm that focuses on the natural environment & farming in Alberta – FREE
- Fall specials on all plants, trees and shrubs
- Pumpkin Cannon – Must be seen to be believed!
